Dharma Acharya has been active supporter of democratic movements in Nepal and has organized and participated in a number of rallies held in Washington, D.C., New York, and Gainesville, Florida. He is one of the founding editorial board members of Nepal Update, a quarterly newsletter published from Washington, D.C. during early 1990s. Dharma was also actively involved in organizing development related workshops in Washington D.C. including Infrastructure and Development in Nepal. He also participated in the United Nation’s Transfer of Knowledge Through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN) program in 2001 and advised=2 0Nepal’s National Planning Commission for establishing a long term transportation strategy and also performed a preliminary feasibility study for building a direct highway link between Kathmandu and Hetauda.

Dharma came to the U.S. 25 years ago for graduate studies. He earned his Ph.D. in Transportation Systems from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1990), a Master of Science in Transportation from University of Massachusetts at Amherst (1985) and a Bachelor of Science in Highway Engineering from Tong-Ji University, Shanghai, China (1983). Dharma currently lives in Jacksonville, FL and is an Assistant Vice President – Operations Research at CSX Transportation, one of the four major freight railway companies in the U.S.
